Navicore launches GPS navigation to mobile phone users in Spain and Portugal
"From now on the only way to get lost in Iberia is to lose your mobile phone"
June 1, 2005
Following the launches in Scandinavia, Germany, the UK and Benelux, Navicore today announced the availability of its navigation system in Spain and Portugal. Navicore Personal is a new mobile phone navigator that offers GPS for personal and in-car use at a tenth of the cost compared to traditional systems. Featuring the fastest mapping and routing technology on the market, Navicore Personal provides a reliable and easy-to-use navigation solution for devices people find most convenient using when on the move - their own mobile phone.
Navicore Personal runs on the widest range of mobile phones on the market today with full support for Symbian Series 60, Symbian Series 80 and Symbian UIQ handsets from e.g. Nokia, Panasonic, Motorola, SonyEricsson, Panasonic, Siemens, and Sendo. Navicore has designed the product ground up for mobile phone use, in comparison with competitive solutions that are typically ported versions of PDA navigators. As a result Navicore Personal integrates seamlessly into the phone and makes navigation as easy as typing a text message.
To make navigation affordable and available to everyone, a key design criteria of Navicore Personal has been simplicity and ease-of-use. Navicore Personal is the most responsive product on the market. Maps are clear and intuitive, and the product reacts to user input instantly even on mobile handsets with limited computing power. Calculating routes of hundreds of kilometers takes only a few seconds. This is achieved as Navicore Personal contains a fast proprietary routing algorithm to respond to directions taken by users without delay.
Navicore Personal is sold as a complete retail package containing everything necessary to start navigating straight away. Included in the box is a memory card containing the Navicore application, full street map of Spain and Portugal from TeleAtlas, a Bluetooth GPS receiver and a charger. The receiver features the latest Sirf III GPS chip which makes it possible to receive an accurate signal even if it is placed in a bag, a pocket or in the glove compartment of a car. The product is simple to install; all that is required is for users to slot in the memory card into their phone. That’s it. As no network downloads are necessary, maps are always available to the user which is a key benefit.
Navicore Personal is available from June 1, 2005 with a recommended retail price of 299 euros for Symbian Series 60-based mobile phones. More information can be obtained from Navicore’s official Spanish distributor Atlantis Telecom, +34 93 336 97 97, www.atlantistelecom.com.
