The new design GPS receiver for all-around navigation
The Symbian Smartphone Show, London, UK - October 17th, 2006 - Navicore, a leading European provider of easy-to-use GPS navigation software for smartphones, today introduced the world’s smallest Bluetooth GPS receiver to accompany the latest version of its award-winning GPS navigation product for connected mobile devices, Navicore Personal 2007.
Navicore Personal is the easy-to-use GPS-navigator specifically developed for connected mobile devices. Navicore Personal is not only a full navigation system for use when driving, cycling or walking, but also a convenient pocket guide that includes most public roads and thousands of points-of-interest such as restaurants, hotels, petrol stations and local tourist venues.
The Navicore Bluetooth GPS receiver calculates its exact position by the signals it receives from 20 GPS satellites circling the Earth and communicates with Navicore Personal software via Bluetooth connection. The Bluetooth GPS receiver saves satellite information such as the status of the satellite signal, the last location, as well as the date and time last used. It re-acquires satellite signals in 100 ms and updates position data every second.
The design of the new Navicore Bluetooth GPS receiver is unique in the market and it is currently the smallest and lightest GPS available, measuring only 64 x 22 x 15mm and weighing just 30g. This means that it can be easily used also when not in a car and carried around the neck with the lanyard provided when navigating on foot or by bike. Even though the Navicore Bluetooth GPS receiver is really small and chic, there is no compromise on quality of the receiver or the performance of it. It is powered by the SiRF Star III GPS chipset and offers users up to 8 hours of battery life in continuous use. The built-in battery can be charged easily by connecting the USB cable included in the package to a laptop, PC, or a cigarette lighter outlet.
"This new highly designed and small GPS unit really takes navigation out of the car and enables Navicore Personal users to have state of the art navigation software at their disposal regardless of mode of travel”, said Juha Murtopuro, CEO, Navicore Ltd.
The Navicore Bluetooth GPS receiver is compatible with all Navicore Personal products supporting the following platforms: Symbian S60, S80, UIQ 3 and Linux Internet Tablet OS 2006 Edition.
The Navicore Bluetooth GPS receiver will be available in November 2006, see www.navicoretech.com.
