News | 3mensio receives FDA clearance for its medical imaging software application 3viseon

November 24, 2004

Bilthoven, The Netherlands. 3mensio Medical Imaging B.V. of The Netherlands today announced the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given clearance to 3mensio’s 3viseon medical imaging software application. Designed to display and process large volume based medical images and data, 3viseon sets a new level of price/performance in today’s medical imaging market.

The need for moe effective and efficient patient care and treatment has led to huge advancements in the medical and technological field. Multi-slice CT and new MR techniques for example. On the other hand, this has also led to an ever increasing amount of data making ‘traditional’ reading more and more difficult. Today’s challenge is all about maximizing the benefits of today’s state-of-the-art solutions. In short, medical specialists need an imaging solution that offers speed, improves diagnosis and treatment planning and is affordable.

"The FDA clearance of our 3viseon workstation brings advanced 3D medical imaging to a wide array of medical specialists and locations," says Frank Wessels, CEO of 3mensio Medical Imaging B.V. "For instance at the desktop of medical specialists such as neurosurgeons, cardiologists, or orthopedists. This is the result of the use of affordable and extremely fast off-the-shelf graphical processing units that offer the power to easily cope with the ever increasing amount of data."

3viseon is a PC-based medical imaging solution that offers the highest image quality, true real-time performance, and a rich feature set with an intuitive user interface. Fast technology that for instance enables interactive loading, on-the-fly image filtering and variable slice thickness, especially with large datasets. It removes the boundaries between 2D viewing and effective, high quality 3D rendering (MIP, MPR, Volume Rendering and Slab Viewing) by truly integrating them in a single solution. The intuitive user interface and the architecture also contribute significantly to faster results. 3viseon is DICOM compliant and fits seamlessly into PACS configurations or other medical networks.

3mensio Medical Imaging will present 3viseon at this year’s RSNA exhibition, held from November 28th to December 3rd in McCormick Place, Chicago. 3mensio can be found in booth #8169 (North Building - Hall B).

Founded in August 2003, 3mensio focuses on exploiting the capabilities offered by so-called Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) on graphics boards that are quickly becoming commodity components of PCs. Their tremendous speed and programmability, enhancing quickly as a result of the fierce competition in the multi-billion dollar computer games industry, will provide the path towards a new level of functionality and price/performance for advanced 3D medical imaging.
